I can't take the side effects of Zoloft they are driving me crazy what should I do?

I am very sensitive to medication and I am only prescribed 50mg of Zoloft but I can only take 25mg and I am still feeling horrible. I have cold sweats, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, etc. I really want to stop this medication, I have been taking it for less than a week. Does anyone have any suggestions? I suffer more from generalized anxiety than depression if that helps at all
by "crazy" I mean that they are making my anxiety disorder so much worse to the point I feel afraid I could die. Anyone with anxiety has experienced this but I don’t want to keep suffering with this drug. I take .25mg Klonopin daily for my anxiety and it worked well until the Zoloft was brought in.
Anyone who says Zoloft is not causing my side effects is out of their mind.. look up Zoloft on the internet, there is a whole list of these. Anything that messes with the Seratonin in your brain is definitely doing "something"

I would continue taking the medication. You won’t see the actual medication start to work until roughly 2 weeks - 2 months. Also, you shouldn’t just stop taking your medication all at once, that could have negative side effects.

I take cymbalta for depression. When I first started taking it I would get so dizzy, feel like I was always going throw up, and a bunch of other stuff. But I only had those side effects for like 2 weeks, after that they just went away.

im pretty sure if you go talk to your doctor about switching meds, they will tell you to stay on it for at least 2 months. Just to see if it will actually work for you or not. But I would go talk to a doctor to see if there is a lower dosage you can take or something, because that helps!

and here i was thinking i was the only one…i had the same problem w/ zoloft and my dr keep telling me to keep taking it that the meds couldn’t b causing these problems so i just stopped taking them, i tried for 2 weeks. 2 days after i stopped taking them all of the symptoms stopped. my dr changed my script to celexa after that and i’m doing a lil better. however, for just anxiety maybe a sedative would be a better choice. if not u could always try a lil mary jane! : ) good luck!

If the side effects are making you crazy you should take some anti-psychotics. I’ve heard that they can be really tough to deal with but Zoloft is quite important for you to take.

The side affects of any medication are usually the worst within the first week or 2 weeks and it takes up to 4 weeks to see weather they will help you.
So being on it a week your in the worst part of your body adjusting to it now and not at the part where you see any point yet. The side affects should lessen as your body adjusts to the medication and may go away entirely.

With that said though, if the side affects are really driving you more crazy than what your treating, you should contact your doc that prescribed them and tell them that. There are a TON of medications for depression and anxiety. And each reacts differently in each individual. This may not be the best one for you. You haven’t been on it very long so it shouldn’t be difficult for you to adjust to a switch in meds that may have less side affects on you.

So you really have 2 options here. Buck up for at least another week or two and hope taking your meds consistently that your side affects go away….or call your doctor and make an appointment to switch to a different medication.

    Hi jessica,

i am a 55 yr old male that suffered for years with panic, anxiety, and depression. Did most of the meds and they just masked or eased the symptoms temporarily. Please do what you can to get off them. They don’t cure you and can be dangerous. here is what truly causes all the symptoms and attacks and I will give you a link to a webpage I built to give more helpful info as well as a direct URL to the program that finally cured me 100%
The Amygdala, a small organ in the brain which stores and perpetuates all of your anxiety and panic disorders, as well as many other phobias, has been identified by The National Institute Of Mental Health as the main reason for panic attack disorders as well as many other mental disorders and phobias. weird but true. I was a long time panic attack sufferer until a friend turned me on to this online program called The Linden Method which has cured thousands, and it cured me 100%.

    Good Luck To You,
    Get Off The Meds ASAP,
    Scott

Your symptoms sound like symptoms of anxiety, not symptoms of zoloft. You have not been taking zoloft for the three or four weeks required for it to reduce your anxiety yet. antidepressants are very effective at reducing anxiety. Self help measures are also. See web sites below
