Side effects for Xanax?

I was prescribed xanax for anxiety and insomnia.
I took one last night at about 2 am because I could not sleep, and stayed up for a little bit instant messaging my friend.
After about an hour I was so trippy, apparantly I was talking to my friend until 5 in the morning, and was telling her that posters in my room were moving, and that the instant messager words were flying everywhere.
Plus when I woke up I saw that I had written on the walls.
Is this normal? And I just took 1.

Sleep walking and talking is a side affect, so perhaps you should speak with your doctor

It takes several weeks for your body to adjust and for this medication to start working. If you have really bad experience with it, TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR.
The main danger of taking Xanax is that it is highly addictive. If you stay on the prescribed dose and do not take more, you’ll be fine, but many people start with 2 or 3 pills a day and end up with 20 or 30 a day, which is very dangerous.
A friend of mine had this problem. His doctor told him that taking 2 pills a day is fine even if he takes them for the rest of his life, but almost nobody can stick to the prescribed dose. People get hooked on it and want more and more. Just like with street drugs.
