Long-term side effects from Lexapro?

I have been diagnosed with a mood disorder less than a year ago. I am currently taking 10mg of Lexapro and 25mg of Seroquil for my depression, mood swings, uncontrolled suicidal thoughts, insomnia, etc. I have been taking the two medications since October of last year, and at first I felt great. I was happy, confident, and at an all-time high. Lately, however, I feel different. I am dizzy, tired, uninterested, hungry all of the time, abrasive, and somewhat hopeless, not to mention my period is completely irregular. I definitely don’t think it’s the Seroquil alone. Is it the combination of the meds? Is it the Lexapro? Am I having long-term side-effects? I am only 15. What’s going on?

Seroquil is VERY VERY VERRYYY dangerous…it can actually make someone develop diabetes ( i forgot the other things)….since you said just mood swings, i’m guessing you have bipolar disorder rather than just depression.

i really hate when doctors prescribe two different medications to treat one thing. plus, insomnia is treated by things like tylenol pm and whatnot, not psychiatric drugs. look, you need to go to the doctor again, you need to say you prefer to be on just one medication and a DIFFERENT KIND. trust me, if you have Bipolar disorder…you do NOT want to be on some stupid ass antidepressant such as lexapro. for one, lexapro is an "upper". with bipolar disorder, there is already an ‘upper’ called mania. at first, i was on lexapro and diagonosed with major depressive disorder rather than BP…all that crap did was make my mania worse…and i was only on it for not even 3 weeks…

but anyways. go to the doc IMMEDIATELY. tell your parents, don’t hide it anymore. talk about Lamictal. i’ve read (and was told by my psych) lamictal is one of the safest mood stabilizers on the market especially for youth (i was put on it at 15…i’m almost 18 now) and there’s hardly any side effects. ever. and you don’t have to up the dose after a few months like you would have to with other drugs. please. tell your parents right now and call your doctor.

email me. i can try to help ya out with little tricks to stay level till you go back to the doctor…..comebackkiddxxx@yahoo.com

you NEED a different medication. and you shouldn’t be slipping into depression so fast. it probably is the combination….i’ve heard a lot of people on serequil not having great outcomes to taking it….

Definitely talk to your doctor about this. But in my experiences with taking Lexapro it has made me tired and hungry all of the time! What I did was I spoke to my doctor, started taking my Lexapro at night, since it made me tired, and my doctor added Topomax to my long list of medications, (it’s used to treat either depression or anxiety, I’m not sure which one exactly) and that helped me as an appetite suppresant. So talk to your doctor about Topomax, it may help you too. If either one of these medications is causing dizziness or it’s making you feel uninterested, then it may need to be adjusted or changed so please speak to you doctor asap. As far as your periods? I’m not sure if the medications could have anything to do with that, but if you’re on birth control, that could have something to do with it. I know when I was on birth control it screwed up my whole cycle. Anyway, best of luck to you, feel better and I hope I helped.
