Tetrazefaen(SP?) and Cyclobenzaprine For Insomnia?

so i've suffered from chronic insomnia over the past two years…..i'm the kinda person who likes to not use medicine and such, unless i have to….

well it finaly got to the point that i needed too

2 weeks ago my doc gave me a prescription for tetrazefain??? i completely forgot to spell it, but hopefullly you guys know what i'm refering too…..that didnt work at all, it was 50mgs i believe, and yea….i would take one, and wouldn't feel anything, then i would take 1 more a hour later, and still didn't feel anything. i had no caffine or anything in my system to keep me awake……i decided to talk with my doc than rather try 3 pills

so now i've got a prescription for cyclobenzaprine, 10mg, the instructions say take 3 times aday, but my doc suggested just before bed.

my question. is

1) how effective is 10mg? if i didn't feel 100mg's worth of tetrazefan(sp?) how would this compare?

2) if i take one, and i don't feel it, am i ok to try a 2nd one? or should they not be stacked?

    More drugs is NEVER a good idea. That's how people overdose! 1mg of one drug may be ten times stronger than another, so NEVER guess.
    It sounds like, not only do you have a high tolerance for narcotics, but you haven't really exposed you system to much in the past. Two things that spell trouble when trying to find a drug level that works.
    Two questions for you….
    1. when you are awake, are you hyperactive or comatose?
    2. can you take a vacation?

    My thought is this….
    Either way, you need to get your body into some sort of routine. Right now, it's to stay awake. Try to create a space for sleep and sleep ONLY. Don't use your bed for reading or web-surfing. Only sleep. When you set down to rest, try to condition yourself to just rest. Even find something that helps and stick with it.
    I have trouble sleeping ALOT!!! I found that the sound of the dryer running helps. Also, if I spend 3 hours on the computer, I tend to get tiered. It's very hard for me to sleep without any music or something going. I've found about ten songs that help put me to sleep, and I play them over and over and only when it's time for bed. Works like a charm!
    I've just conditioned myself. I still have trouble some nights and I'm on the Internet till 5am, but it's helped. You just need to try MANY different things to turn your mind off, and make it a habit.

    You take these particular tablets as prescribed by the doctor.
    They will affect you psychologically in the long run and this may last for life - or to put it another way, I know 100 people who have now got a screw loose because of those tablets and their careers have been ruined.

    It may be an idea to forget about trying to sleep - drink your caffeine and get on with things. Your body will tell you if it needs sleep or not.
    Most people who have insomnia have something on their mind which is keeping their mind alert - it doesnt matter - let yourself not sleep - dont worry about it - your body will fall asleep when it needs to - and you will fihd that you will stop worrying about not sleeping and you will then sleep in the rhythm that is normal to your system - maybe that rhythm is not as normal as other peoples but so what?

    Your biggest problem is in taking yourself too seriously - ease up - let it ride.

    Under no circumstances can you compare the dosage of one medication to the dosage of another. It just won't work, each med has it's own dosing. Cyclobenzaprine is just Flexeril which is a muscle relaxer, not really a sleep aid. Standard dose is 5 mg 3 times a day that can be increased to 10 mg three times a day max is for 2 - 3 weeks. I cannot being to imagine what the other med might be, can't find or think of anything similar in spelling but I am guessing it might be a benzodiazepine. Was it trazodone?
